Why was Bolin Green Pings middle name, Green?
Re: Why was Bolin Green Pings middle name, Green?
Green, Greenup, and Greenberry were somewhat popular boy's names in the early to middle 1800s. My own direct male line includes a man named Greenup Raney (1846-1912) from Pulaski County, KY who married John and Lydia Ping's great granddaughter Martha Pointer; he usually went by "Green".
My tree database software won't search for a term in a middle name, but I have 37 men in my database whose first name started with the five letters "Green". Not as popular as, say, William, Robert, or John were - but in Pulaski County at the time, someone might well have known several men named "Green".
