Board Setup Hassles

Post by jmraney » Tue Nov 05, 2019 9:12 am

It's been a rough couple of days trying to get things set up. I wasn't 100% sure that phpBB was the best possible solution for getting things up and running, but at least it does work.

Plan "A" was to build the HTML code for all the pages here at home, and just upload them onto the Web server.

Unfortunately, that plan was thwarted by the local Internet Service Provider. Here in Lower East Podunk, Kentucky you have one choice of Internet provider (DSL from the local phone company). The DSL modem / router combo you get from them does not come with a means for you, the user, to get in and change any of the settings. The way it's set up, FTP (File Transfer Protocol) will not work - and that's how most Web content is uploaded to Web servers. :(
